Routes 31, 31A, 31E, and 63, Medina, NY

Erdman Anthony provided scoping, design services, and construction inspection services for the reconstruction of Routes 31, 31A, 31E, and 63, including Main Street (Center Street to West Avenue) and Commercial Street (West Avenue to Prospect Street). Some of the key design elements included pavement reconstruction, drainage improvements, and sidewalks. Safety improvements included turning lanes, shoulders, and new curbing. Sidewalks and bicycle lanes were installed to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists. Streetscape improvements included decorative lighting, benches, planters, and street trees. An extensive public participation program included public information meetings, a public hearing, advisory group formations and meetings, formal presentations, and one-on-one meetings with individual businesses. When the reconstruction process began, local businesses feared the disruption would cripple their operations and drive customers away. However, Erdman Anthony and their fellow contractors set out to reduce upheaval and negative impact on the businesses. As a result of this effort, residents and businesses were updated on construction schedules, and store entrances were kept open. Erdman Anthony was presented the Silver Award for Engineering Excellence by the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York). The project also won Project of the Year Award in the Transportation category from the American Public Works Association (APWA), New York Chapter (local and statewide award). Owner: Village of Medina
